Craig Charles Set to Headline Ambitious New Venue

Nick Whelan

Funk, Soul and all things musical: DJ legend Craig Charles is set to headline at Dundee’s much anticipated LIVEHOUSE venue opening night.

One of Scotland’s biggest venues

Dundee’s newest live music venue is set to open on May 2nd with a bang, bringing in one of the UKs biggest music and radio pioneers, Craig Charles. The venue, located at the site of the old Green playhouse and Mecca Bingo on the Nethergate, promises to hold a capacity of an ambitious 4,500.

It is set to be one of Scotland’s biggest music venues with plans to attract international acts and bring thousands to Dundee’s local economy. Until now, the music scene in Dundee has been at a bit of a loose end, despite its rich musical history.

Craig Charles is largely known for his acting career, staring in the likes of sitcom Red Dwarf. However, in recent years he has become a well-known talent for his work in the funk and soul music scene. Since 2002, Charles has been a DJ on BBC Radio 6 Music, presenting The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show where he showcases and plays a wide variety of funk and soul music ranging from its roots to modern releases. Charles often brings a personal touch to the music he plays, explaining his own personal connections and stories behind his chosen tracks.

The funk and soul event with Charles as headliner, is also set to welcome DJ Patty, with further acts to be announced. It is to open at 7pm and run to 12am. Early bird tickets (starting at £16.50) can be purchased here.
